great for emergency kits The product description had me at 30 tablets individually sealed in foil pouches. The iodine tablets tend to come in little jars that have an uncertain shelf life once opened. So these 30 individual pouches are now dispersed amongst various packs bins and vehicles. Perfect.The general rule is 1 gallon per person per day. That's 4 tabs per person per day of emergency unless you can boil the stuff At $2 per gallon I wouldn't use these for purifying a lot of water if I had other options. For example tossing a 7 gallon container of tap water into the truck gives me about the same amount of treated water as the 30 tablets could provide. Also never underestimate the usefulness of a gallon of bleach.
They worked just fine I have found that if you let the water sit for at least 6 8 hours the taste is not nearly as bad. You just have to make sure it is out of direct sunlight while it is purifying the water. So I tend to use them overnight if I have to.As for the taste if you are used to city water it isn't that bad if you let it sit out. If you are not used to chlorinated water it will taste like pool water.

If you have ever been sick from drinking contaminated water and are hours away from help you will appreciate the benefit this tablet provides. I always use a water filter in conjunction with using the MicroPur purification tablets. One tablet treats one liter of water so plan accordingly on how many tablets you may need.
permanent chemical burns?! Bwaaaa? I'm putting together a survival kit and these tablets seemed like a perfect addition to a pocketsized kit until I read all the warnings. DANGER Corrosive. Causes irreversible eye damage and skin burns. Harmful if absorbed through skin Do not get in eyes on skin or on clothing. wear safety glasses protective clothing and rubber gloves. Wash hands and contaminated clothing after handling. These are pure chlorine dioxide tablets! Packing these corrosive tablets in right next to the rest of my survival gear seems ludicrous. I'm giving this a bad review because the product description is misleading.
Good choice for water in Third World coutries. We took these tablets to Bangladesh and used them on a daily basis. You do have to wait three hours to make sure all the microorganisms are killed but the water tasted fine and no one got sick so these seemed to work well for us.
Best tasting water My friend and I went on a five day backpacking trip in CA and hands down these tablets produced the most normal tasting water. We had access to plenty of lakes streams and sometimes a pond looking pool of water. We didn't take a chance so we treated all sources with this and a different brand. Although other brands took only a few minutes this one takes at least four hours to treat. Other brands actually change the color into an orange color but this Katadyn makes the water clear and we couldn't tell the difference.Again the four hour treatment time takes a bit of planning but definitely worth it.
FYI Expiration date I purchased these 01/27/11 to store for emergency preparedness. The tablets I received expire 06/2014. Anyone looking for solutions that will store for a longer period of time may want to find another method of purification.
