AQUAMIRA 1OZ WATER TREATMENT DROPS good product
AQUAMIRA 1OZ WATER TREATMENT DROPS - N/A - N/A Read more...
Handy on the trail I confess what I really wanted was a filter pump for my back county hike but not having the $100+ for one of those these treatment drops did the trick perfectly! Left little or no taste in the water and kept me alive. To keep my hydration pack sterile I brought an empty 2Liter bottle along to dip in the river and treat the water slung it from the outside of my pack.
Better than a filter? I say equal I have a friend who uses a nice $80 filter. The nice thing is you get water instantly with a filter but you have to hand pump. The drops work great taste like water out of the tap and are super light weight perfect for backpacking or emergency kit The only draw back I found for the drops is if you have more than one container you have to mix the water individually. Here's what I meanIf you have 4 32oz. water bottles. You mix Part A & Part B and wait 5 minutes for the chemicals to react. You have to do that for each water bottle thus 20 minutes and 4x's you have to go through the motions. I will bring a collapsible 1 gallon water jug next time so I just have to do it once. Plus once you add the mixture to the water it takes 15 minutes for the drops to work in clean water and up to 30 minutes for murky high turbity water. 300 Gallons of water for <$15. I would recommend this to anyone!!! Hope this review helps and happy hydration.
good product This does the job. I've used a few different methods to treat my water but this method is good when you don't have time or weight to carry a water filter. Just like all the other chemically treated products it leaves an iodine taste and smell in your water but at least it's letting you knowits working.

McNett Tactical Aquamira Frontier Ultralight Better but bigger
McNett Tactical Aquamira Frontier Pro Ultralight Water Filter Read more...- 3 replacement pre-filters lengthen filter life. Filters up to 50 gallons of water.
- All the benefits of a larger bottle filter in an ultralight, compact size.
- Straw style filter attaches directly to water bottles and water bladders. Tube adapter attaches directly to hydration packs.
- Antimicrobial. Removes giardia and cryptosporidium. Ultralight and compact. Portable and easy to use. No wait time.
However DO NOT drink otherwise untreated water with this filter! This is a great little filter for what it does.Learn what each type of water treatment does and does not do. I wouldn't drink water from any natural source even a stream or lake through this without also chemically treating it too. If I would then I probably would have drank it with out any treatment like from a known pure source ie. trusted spring. Most of the pump filters in common use filter out bacteria some remove viruses and most all remove giardia and cryptosporidium .The advertising may be a little deceptive. It is not a lie just a partial truth. This filter does nothing to filter out bacteria or viruses. It only takes out Giardia and Cryptosporidium which are both larger organisms as well as some taste and dirt. This filter in itself is not an acceptable method for treating drinking water from any open stream or lake in the US IMHO. It probably does a good job of removing the things it say it does but removing bacteria is the basic water treatment you are looking for. This is basically what the ad says. Antimicrobial. Removes giardia and cryptosporidium. Ultralight and compact. Portable and easy to use. No wait time. That's a little deceptive advertising but true. It just doesn't say it that it doesn't take out bacteria virus. It does say this if you get into the company website and I think on the directions with the filter.Important When using this filter you still need to treat the water chemically with iodine chlorine chlorine dioxide a SteriPEN etc to kill bacteria and viruses. Both the SteriPEN and chlorine dioxide tablets are nice because they have no taste or even improve the taste in the case of the chlorine dioxide. All that said this is still a great filter for a very specific procedure as follows A great light weight method for treating water is to use this filter in series with two bags. A dirty and clean bag and gravity filter water. It weighs much less then any pump. You also need to treat the water with chlorine dioxide. Chlorine dioxide takes four 4 hours to kill Cryptosporidium but only 1/2 hours to kill bacteria and virus. So with the combination you can be drinking in 1/2 hour or so.Do a search on youtube for jasonklass filter and he describes a very lightweight process using this filter and additional chemical treatment. Together it is about the lightest filter system you can have and quite fast as well. I think he uses the less expensive Frontier Pro model which is basically the same.Edit On further review their site says it removes down to 3 micron.
great product great value This little water filter is great ! Very lightweight and great for backpacking when you don't want to carry a heavy walter filtration device. You can drink straight from the stream or lake and be sure your water will taster a whole lot better than without it.
The color seems the only difference. I got both Tactical and PRO versions AFAICT the color and the pricing is the only difference. The PRO version was a subdued gray color really no more visible than the OD Tacticool version Sidebyside visually? you can barely tell the difference between the PRO and the Tactical. Depending on your source the Tactical can cost ~$5 more plus?.Functionally ? In terms of what you get in the package ?? Everything else is exactly the same IDENTICAL other than color and pricing and packagedgraphics . I have a Camelbak Tactical pack and a Digital ACU sleepsystem and I can tell you that I was worried that the PRO version might be ORANGE ..
Don't know yet I haven't really had a chance to use this but I will say that I would very rarely if ever trust just a filter to give me potable water. That being said I bought this to use the one two punch method of first purifying water with chemical tablets and then using the filter to remove 1 any particulates in the water I collect 2 the chemical taste of the tablets and 3 as a backup for the chemical just in case.
Better but bigger This filter unlike the regular frontier emergency filter handles up to 50 gallons has prefilters and has threads/attachments for connecting to a threaded water bottle or snapping onto a hydration bladder. So far so good. However it is much bulkier than the regular modeltoo much so for easily keeping in a pocket. Unfortunately the regular filter doesn't attach to or even fit inside the smaller mouth of a collapsible water bottle. Yet it's smaller and lighter not to mention cheaper than the Pro model. So for pocket use the Pro model isn't great. But for keeping in a bag with a collapsible canteen it's the way to go. Fits just fine onto my platypus. Also the bag it comes in can be used as an emergency water containter zip top with standing base.

Water Filter Straw, Frontier Emergency Water Filter System for Emergency Disaster Preparedness, Survival Kits, Survival Packs, Read more...- The Frontier Filter is the ideal alternative to heavy, bulky and expensive pump filtration units when space and weight are primary factors. Activated carbon helps reduce waterborne chemicals and improves water taste.
- Use the Frontier Emergency Water Filter System to drink from any bottle, cup or directly from water sources.
- Ultra light and compact, the Aquamira Frontier Emergency Filter System weighs less than one ounce and easily slips into a day pack, shirt pocket or travel luggage and is always ready when you need it.
Just in case It's in our emergency pack so haven't used it yet. It seems like a musthave for any time you may be on foot with all your survival needs on your back such as long hikes.
Dunno bought it for the SHTF bag and I hope to never need to use it. In theory it looks like it should work just fine but I did buy one for both me and my wife as well as other products to ensure good water if anything should ever happen.
Great for Emergency Storage My boyfriend bought these to take with him hunting just in caseBut they'd be great to keep in one's emergency supply storage.
Seems to work but has a cheap feel OK I ordered this because it was cheap. Had to send the first one back because it was broken. Received the replacement after a minor delay. The filter seems to work but it sure is.cheap feeling. Maybe that's not fair since being cheap is why I ordered itstill it's hard to trust this filter to work when I need it. I may check other options. But it DOES seem to work.

Katadyn Micropur MP1 Purification Tablets Simple, Lightweight, and Effective
Katadyn Micropur MP1 Purification Tablets Read more...- The only tablet or liquid proven effective against viruses, bacteria, Giardia, and Cryptosporidium in all water conditions
- The only purification tablet (or liquid) EPA registered as a microbiological water purifier
- Works in 30 minutes in most water (four hours if the water is cold and dirty)
- Tablets are individually sealed in waterproof strips for a longer shelf life and to reduce weight
- Each tablet is premeasured to treat one liter of water; no mixing or measuring required
Perfectly packaged. I have not used these to purify water yet but I must say that they are packaged perfectly to add to a small survival kit or a survival tin. They are individually packaged and flat and that was just what I needed for my Altoids tin mini survival kit. They have a good reputation and I have no doubt as to their quality.
Simple Lightweight and Effective Katadyn MicroPur Purification Tablets are a necessary and vital part of my gear to prevent illness from waterborne diseases. The tablets contain Chlorine Dioxide. They are very easy to use portable and individually wrapped. They also have a long shelf life of 5 years. Micropur tablets are effective against viruses bacteria Giardia and Cryptosporidium. One tablet destroys+ Viruses and bacteria in 15 minutes+ Giardia in 30 minutes+ Cryptosporidium in 4 hoursWhen possible I recommend doing research to determine the water quality in the area that you will be backpacking or camping especially to determine if the water contains Cryptosporidium since this is what causes the 4 hour wait time. If there is no Cryptosporidium then you won't need to wait 4 hours. When backpacking or camping I firmly believe in using multiple methods to ensure clean drinkable water. If you have ever been sick from drinking contaminated water and are hours away from help you will appreciate the benefit this tablet provides. I always use a water filter in conjunction with using the MicroPur purification tablets. One tablet treats one liter of water so plan accordingly on how many tablets you may need. I have noticed a slight chlorine after taste when the water is warm but when the water is cold I have never notice any after taste. For those who despise a four hour wait time you can try the following method. To help get around the four hour wait time I always have a least two Nalgene water bottles. When one bottle is empty I will add water to the bottle and treat it with a MicroPur purification tablet while my other bottle still contains drinkable water. I continually rotate my drinkable water with water that is being treated. Remember the bottle threads may contain water that is not treated and can get you sick so take appropriate precautions. While this isn't a perfect method it does seem to work fairly well as long as you have a water source available. In a desert environment this method tends not to work well due to the lack of available water sources. In those cases I carry a lot of water. Some drawbacks to this product include Four hour wait time for cryptosporidium Tablets can get crushed so pack them well The package can be difficult to open Safety caveat! There are Precautionary Statements statingDANGER Corrosive. Causes irreversible eye damage and skin burns. Harmful if absorbed through the skin. Harmful if swallowed. Do not get in eyes on skin or on clothing.
Comparing chemical treatment methods The EPA estimates that 90% of the world's fresh water is contaminated and unsuitable for drinking. The days of kneeling down on a hike and sipping from the stream are long gone. Don't make the mistake of thinking that just because water looks clear or tastes good that it is free of contaminants. That includes frozen water which can house hepatitis A Salmonella and Cryptosporidium for months. There are many options for purifying the water but this post will compare commercial products that rely on halogen chemical treatments.Polar Pure contains iodine crystals has an almost indefinite shelf life if kept tightly sealed and very inexpensive per dose cost requires measuring the dosage using the cap which can be imprecise.Potable Aqua contains iodine tablets shelf life of up to four years if properly stored if they've turned a light green don't use moderately expensive per dose cost easy to administer doses two tablets per quart of water.Micropur MP1 contains chlorine dioxide tablets has a shelf life of at least four years moderately expensive per dose cost and comes in easy to administer doses one tablet per quart of water.Simple household bleach 2 drops per quart of water assuming a a bleach solution of 56% hypochlorite may wish to double the dose for cloudy water shelf life of bleach is only about 6 months must use a dropper to administer dose very inexpensive per dose cost.Tincture of iodine 5 drops per quart assuming a 2% iodine solution may wish to double the dose for cloudy water almost indefinite shelf life if properly stored must use a dropper to administer dose modest per dose cost. All of the methods are effective at killing bacteria somewhat effective against viruses and of limited value against protozoa cysts. Cryptosporidium in particular is resistant to halogen treatments.
Worked for me I used these pills on 430 miles of hiking along the southern AT last year. I didn't get sick drinking from the springs along the trail. The recommended 4 hour treatment is a disadvantage and you need to plan for it. I carried two full quart bottles and always filled and treated a bottle whenever it got empty. I also treated water overnight and used untreated water when boiling water for meals. Some hikers believe that filters are actually lighter because they don't need to carry as much water and that makes up for the weight of the pump. Personally I didn't mind carrying extra H2O especially when springs turn out to be dry.
Great option but WAY too expensive ! I took off TWO stars for pricing and deceptive marketing.PROS* INDIVIDUAL FOIL PACKAGING flat perforated encapsulation. This packaging flat/foil is IDEAL for pocket kits tins medkits !* Much less nasty aftertaste than iodine has a chlorine taste.* Only one tablet per quart/liter required.CONS* VERY high price per quart ! PROHIBITIVE IMO.Potassium Permanganate Crystals are a more reasonable alternative* ONLY 20 Tablets at this high price !* Takes FOUR HOURS in cool temps before water is safe to drink.BOTTOM LINE This is really the very best and only option for longterm storage in small/flat kits at whatever price. The durable individually sealed flexible foil cardpacks allow for compact longterm storage where no other options can really do quite as well fit. At this pricepoint perliter I would recommend ONLY one package of these for your most compact kits . Caveats READ ALL WARNINGS VERY CAREFULLY ! DO not touch the tablets or allow any residue to make contact with your eyes !! Wash your hands and do not rub your eyes after *NOT* touching!ALSO Do not let these foilpacks get too warm for too long.If you have a choice do not store against your body or on the outside edge of your pack In your car? Avoid the trunk and go for under the seat storage or even in a minicooler on the floor.
Best tasting water but takes a long time My friend and I went on a five day backpacking trip in CA and hands down these tablets produced the most normal tasting water. We had access to plenty of lakes streams and sometimes a pond looking pool of water. We didn't take a chance so we treated all sources with this and a different brand. Although other brands took only a few minutes this one takes at least four hours to treat. Other brands actually change the color into an orange color but this Katadyn makes the water clear and we couldn't tell the difference.Again the four hour treatment time takes a bit of planning but definitely worth it.

Impressive product for anyone! I live near a river and it's nice to be able to cary this in my fanny pack on any day hike for emergencies.
Be a survivor man. Take it from a guy who drinks copious amounts of water this filter is the king of survival items. Survivorman Les Stroud has in fact contracted giardia in his survival adventures. Les is a teacher who's lessons are sometimes taught at the expense of his health. His lesson? Don't take chances with parasites or bacteria. This handy little filter fits in your back pocket and will filter up to 20 gallons enough to sustain one person for days to weeks. I keep one in the car one at home and I never hike anywhere without one.
Cheap insurance This one of those better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it items.I have not yet needed itbecause I have been lucky enough to not have to need it.That saidit could really save your life at bestand save you from some kind of disease at worst in an emergency situation.Besidesthey are really inexpensive and fit into your pocket.
Nice Filter I ordered a couple of these and keep them in my vehicles. We are often out hiking in the woods and either forget to bring water or run out of water. These filters are life savers! Just make sure you rinse all the carbon dust out of them before you have to use them.

Aqua Mira Aquamira Purifier Tablets Very effective, hardly changes taste at all.
Aquamira Water Purifier Tablets Read more...- Easy to Use - In a Resealable pouch
- Kills at least 99.99% of bacteria, viruses, and cysts (see Description)
- Made in the U.S.A by aquamira Tech. (Logan, UT)
- Includes 24 tablets - Treats 6 gallons of water
- Meets EPA microbiological water purifier test standards
Very effective hardly changes taste at all. In my experience the various clorine dioxide products have very little effect on the taste of drinking water. Iodine and chlorine both make water taste pretty bad especially iodine. The overwhelming consensus among those who've really investigated it is that clorine dioxide is the way to go for a chemical treatment. Of course one may choose to filter or use a UV device like the Steripen or Aquastar.
Kills Germs Tasted Bad I brought Aquamira to Nepal as a backup to other water purification methods while trekking. I used it once and saved the rest to use as a last resort because it made the water taste like overchlorinated hot tub water. Potent strong bad taste. I'd recommend one of the brands that comes with a second tab to neutralize the chlorine taste. Or if you just don't care what your water tastes like um I guess this product is fine. It's not to be used alone in water that hasn't been filtered in some way.
