Mehmake your own. If I had realized how inexpensive the material in this kit were I would have made my ownand you can! Its not anything that you dont have in your own home. Dont waste your money on this.
Emergency Water anywhere I bought these to add to our 'hurricane' box. Add a few more of the PUR packets with them and as long as I can find dirty water I have drinking water.
Not for long term storage I bought this for emergency use. Living near the coast of NC it is hurricane season and I wanted to keep something readily available in case the water supply gets tainted. I have not used the kit yet but the low review is because the chemical tablets in the kit expire in Aug 2010. This means they will expire less than a year from now. It states a manufacture date of July 2007 3year shelf life so receiving this in late Sept 2009 is very disappointing to me for this type of product. Since it will get us through this season combined with the shipping cost of sending it back I will probably keep it. As far as replacement/additional tablets for the kit hopefully I can find them locally because buying online I may end up in the same situation.
Amazing water purification system for backpackers This product comes with 3 packets of powdered purifier 2 folding 10liter containers a stir stick and filter cloth. You can also buy just the packets of PUR powder if you prefer in that case you'd need to supply your own 10liter containers etc.If you EVER backpack where the water supply is silty e.g. the Colorado River through Grand Canyon the Paria River etc. this is absolutely the quickest 30 mins lightest a 0.14oz. packet cleans 10 liters of water most reliable no filter to clog!! and easiest way to get CLEAR CLEAN drinking water.I'm not kidding. I used this on a 5day backpack in Grand Canyon National Park where our only source of drinking water was the totally siltclogged Colorado River. This stuff gave us gallons of delicious clear totally safe drinking water. One day we had way more purified water than we needed and actually gave several liters of our purified water to some other hikers whose pumps had all completely clogged up. It's truly amazing I can't believe more backpackers don't know about it.And in case you don't trust it it's used all over the world by government and humanitarian groups to clean and purify water in 3rdworld countries where the water quality is basically like a sewer. This stuff makes any water safe to drink. You gotta try it!!If you buy this kit be aware that it's easier to process the water if you have another person with you to hold the filter cloth in place. If you're alone I recommend that you sew the filter cloth onto a wire loop or something so that it can be held in place with one hand that's what I did and it worked great.
not too bad Took a couple of these kits up to the Boundary Waters in MN. The kits worked pretty darn well even my buddy who can be picky was complimentary of the way the water tasted clean and clear. It seems to be a fairly easy way to produce a good amount of safe and tasty drinking water in an acceptable amount of time. It works just as described though the included cloth filter does and will start to clog up even in fairly clear water such as encountered at the BWCA. I would recommend bringing a couple of extra clean white handkerchiefs to use as additional filters to catch all the gunk from going into the 2nd water container as it will make the process a whole lot faster. But I would and will definitely use this again.

Good product Not much to review here Cholrine based tabs kills viruses protzoas and bacteria. Always buy cholrine over iodine tabs.Takes 4hrs to activate but that is industry standard. Just have 2 nalgenes drink one while the other is purifying.

Hose leaked from the first I think this is probably a great product but what was shipped to me was a disaster. In testing the canister not only did the blue dye make it through meaning the canister was bad but the hose leaked in at least 5 spots. No exaggeration. Great Water Purifier I currently own two of these and have used these on many backpacking trips. Keep this in mind a water filter gets rid of protozoa and parasites even bacteria but it does not remove viruses. A water purifier eliminates all of these plus viruses.PROSProduces great water no need to worry about quality. Pump purifies water on up and down stroke. Comes with carry case to keep hoses and small attachments together. Good lifespan on the cartridges.CONSA little on the heavy and bulky side weighs about 1 pound. Purification does take some time though I believe the process takes about 45 minutes in total. You will need a cloth or bandanna to strain any undissolved pieces of the tablet before drinking the water but this is the exact way the US. Army does it. Awesome.. not sick yet These thinks work great the water tastes a little weird but i haven't gotten sick yet so. My go to for purification I used these when I was in the Army. There are probably better options out there that are quicker but I am cheap and these are cheap so I will continue to buy them. Short shelf life but does what it says it does. The product works well it basically kills bacteria and everything else but YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE THE TABLET IS DISSOLVED COMPLETELY! It's hazardous like poison so make sure its dissolved. You put the tablet in a canteen or bottle 12 tablets per liter of water and shake for a minute or two then let sit for about 15 minutes then you strain the water through a cloth like a tshirt into a cup or another clean canteen and check to see if it needs another tab if not then drink and see how it is. Make sure the canteen is cleaned out before next use some of the tablet may not have dissolved so check and make sure! My package is good until 01/01/2012 so its an extremely short shelf life that is my only complaint. I plan on stockpiling these items for a long camping trip possibly 3 months but I need something that will last longer than 3 years. Will do business with seller again but not for same product grossly overpriced! Sorry seller no offense. The Sisters of St Margaret are begging for them so many people are getting and dieing from Colera. Military Purification Tablets I love these purification tablets!! Lightweight and compact compared to other methods of purification. I prefer to carry something lightweight especially if it is only going to be used in a survival situation. I carry these in my canteen pouch and in my Bug out Bag. Love them and recommend them to anyone building a survival bag hiking preparedness or any outdoor enthusiast. Good to keep some of these around you never know. good to have havent used these yet but i figure if their good enough for the military they must work . overpriced if u ask me for what it does You can purchase water purification flocking powder which is also called bentonite powder or bentonite clay in the health section.Bentonite by itself will not kill germs but it will clear dirt water fast. I use it to clarify my wine. It will take a cloudy jug of new 2 week old wine and make it into a super clear wine. If it was dirty water it would do the same then you can run thru your brita pitcher boil it or use chemical disinfectant.Bentonite is used in municipal water before treatment. If you have ever drank municipal water it has been touched by bentonite first. chlorine does not remove giardia For those going to giardia prone areas you should know that CDC studies show chlorine does not remove giardia. For that you need an iodine based tablet. Flocculation just cleans the water visually from debris and you need two containers one to mix the water initially and a second plus a cloth to strain it into. Otherwise this tablet and similar ones are good for most water purification needs. There's a cheap method called SODIS which is free and uses solar energy. A clear bottle filled with water and placed in direct sunlight for at least 8 hours will purify the dirtiest water.
